dc.description.abstract | Once a year, the department of history of the University of Texas
at Arlington invites several distinguished scholars to participate in
the Walter Prescott Webb Memorial Lectures, an event that honors
Texas' well-known historian of the West. Southern Writers and Their
Worlds, the theme of the twenty-ninth annual lectures, may seem
rather removed from the Great Plains of Texas that were so dear to
Professor Webb. But, then, Texas belongs not just to the West; it also
belongs to the South....
We dedicate this volume to Wendell Knox, historian and teacher,
Texan and Southerner, who retired after thirty years of valuable
service. | |
