dc.description.abstract | Purpose: The purpose of this investigation was to gain a more comprehensive understanding of educational experiences of eight African American (AA) men on academic probation, while attending a predominantly White college institution in the Southeastern part of the United States. While over the past decade increased attention has been given to the collegiate experiences of AA men, there has been little attention given to AA men who continue to struggle academically and are at the greatest risk of failing. Method: This study utilizes Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis and Intersectionality Theory. Results: Participants in this study reported experienced Misrecognition, Diminished Confidence and Racial Distancing. Discussion: Implications for future research and social work are discussed. | |
